Welcome to Gurdwara Sikh Satsang of Indianapolis where visitors of all backgrounds are welcome regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, gender or any other distinction. This page has information to help first time visitors learn some basic protocols of the Gurdwara.
When Visiting a Gurdwara
The Gurdwara is open everyday to everyone. During the service, everyone sits down on the carpeted floor in the Diwan hall. Sangat should be aware of the following guidelines when visiting:
Gurdwara Etiquettes
- Please dress appropriately so that you can comfortably and with decency sit on the floor.
- Remove shoes before entering the Diwan Hall. Shoe racks are available inside the lobby.
- Cover your head at all times inside the Gurdwara. Head covers are available in the lobby.
- Everyone sits cross legged on the carpeted floor. There are benches available for people with medical condition only.
- Everyone stands up during Ardas.
- Switch off mobile phone before entering the Diwan Hall.
- Consumption or possession of tobacco, liquor, meat or intoxicants including E-cigarettes and vaping are strictly forbidden on the Gurdwara premises.
Guided Tours
Guided tours of the Gurdwara Sahib are available by appointment only. Please send your request, via email, in advance. A volunteer will contact you to confirm the tour timings. Tours are free of cost.
